William E. Barr

The William E. Barr Scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of William E. Barr. Born in Danville, Will graduated from George Washington High School in 1983 and received a B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College in 1987 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He worked as Director of Finance and Administration for Liberty Life Insurance Co. and was a dominant force on the golf course. Always more concerned for the welfare of others than his own, Will touched the lives of many with his generous spirit. Will died in 2010, at the age of 45, after a courageous battle with cancer. The William E. Barr Scholarship supports Danville-Pittsylvania County graduates attending Hampden-Sydney College.
