Garnette Riddle Francis

Mrs. Garnett Francis, a retired Pittsylvania County teacher, established the Riddle-Francis Scholarship in 2005. The scholarship benefits Pittsylvania County Public Schools graduates, with a preference for Tunstall or Dan River students.

Mrs. Francis graduated from Averett College in 1938 and Madison College in 1940. She loved teaching English at Whitmell Farm Life School for a number of years. In 1945, she married John Thomas Francis, who owned J.M. Francis Store in Swansonville. Mrs. Francis died in 2011.
