Gail and Walter Gunn

Gail and Walter Gunn

The Gail and Walter Gunn Scholarship was established in 2015. The scholarship is for local African American students with a preference for those studying business or with an entrepreneurial interest.

The Gunn’s believe in giving back to the community through their time, energy and finances. They have served as members of the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, The Wednesday Club, the NAACP and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. They believe in supporting local organizations such as their local Presbyterian Church, God’s Storehouse and the Ronald McDonald House. Some of their hobbies include reading, walking, traveling, exercising, and stamping out hunger by feeding children. The Gunn’s are well known in the Danville area as self-employed entrepreneurs.

Education was a main priority to Gail Gunn. She attended the University of Massachusetts Boston and Fitchburg State University to obtain a Masters of Education. She even received the incredible honor of being named educator of the year. Mrs. Gunn was greatly mourned when she passed away in 2020. Walter Gunn is a Vietnam veteran who served his country with honor. He continues to honor fellow veterans by purchasing bricks at the Veteran’s Memorial.
